Vandoren and Berklee Team Up to Help School Music in KenyaJanuary, 2011 Chicago, IL– Vandoren, the world’s leading manufacturer of professional reeds, mouthpieces and accessories, has teamed up with the Berklee College of Music to aid music program of the Starehe Boy’s Centre and School in Nairobi, Kenya. The Starehe School provides a well-rounded and holistic education for bright, needy boys in Kenya. The school depends solely on donations and endowments to provide its services. When Vandoren artist and Berklee professor Dan Moretti learned that the students in the music program shared not only their horns, but also their reeds and mouthpieces. When he brought this to the attention of the Vandoren staff, they jumped at the chance to help. “When Dan told me about all the good the school is doing and explained what the music students had to work with, we immediately knew we could help,” said Jim Metz, marketing manager for Dansr Inc. “We put together a package of reeds, mouthpieces and ligatures appropriate for students and Dan coordinated the delivery. We at Vandoren believe that music is an integral part of any student’s education and we want to do what we could to give them the best start possible.” To learn more about how you can help, please visit the Starehe Boys’ Centre & School website: www.stareheboyscentre.ac.ke.
