Summer 2020 Online Music Programs To Keep Your Students Motivated

Summer is not cancelled. We've compiled a list of online summer music programs that run on average from 3-7 days. Here is a running list of available online workshops and summer programs that will keep your students motivated during the summer. 


University of Arkansas - UA Music

You will learn:

  • to play a variety of songs by ear, improvise, and compose your own songs as a group
  • to improve your sense of time and meter
  • to improve your listening skills by singing all parts of the songs (bass line, melody, harmony, improvisation) and connecting the singing to your instruments
  • how to transcribe classic jazz melodies and solos by ear
  • basic audio recording techniques and how to listen to recordings to improve playing
  • strategies for practicing performance, learning songs, style, improvisation, transcription, and composition

University of Georgia - Online Summer Camp

June 8 - 11, 2020

Modified from the traditional in-person camp, each student will have the opportunity to attend daily instrument-specific masterclasses under the direction of the acclaimed faculty of UGA's Hugh Hodgson School of Music. Students will also take daily academic classes, including musicianship for middle school students and elective choices for high school students. Additionally, it is possible to register for an optional 60-minute private lesson.

University of West Georgia - Online Summer Camp

The Spirit of Atlanta staff is currently working on possibilities for a virtual Spirit U this summer that could be conducted in the form on online learning and sharing.  We are also exploring options for some potential small clinics at area schools once those types of gatherings are again approved.  This is obviously a frequently changing situation, and offerings will be adjusted to accommodate the best and safest possibilities.

Directed by Dr. Craig A. Hancock, director of bands and associate professor of music. Open to high school students. Daily sessions include music theory, beginning conducting, jazz improvisation, composition, instrument repair and many others. More information here

New England Music Camp - Online

July 5 - 31, 2020

Students will be able to take numerous online music courses and private lessons which mirror and enhance the NEMC in-person experience. Students will register for classes and build their summer schedule with the guidance of the registrar.More information here

University of Michigan - Online

JTole Music Summer Jazz Workshop

The JTole Summer Workshop educates and inspires young people to be confident, creative and expressive individuals through jazz music.  More information here

Bristol Hills Music Camp - In Person

August 16 - 22, 2020

Each major group rehearses three hours each day, including sight reading. The groups are divided by age and/or ability as determined by staff recommendations based on seating auditions held on check-in day. Generally, Junior High groups include musicians in grades 7-9 and Senior High groups include those in grades 10-12. More information here

Crane School of Music at SUNY Potsdam

Ohio State University - Online

July 13 - 16, 2020

Any choir, band, or orchestra student completing grades 6-12 may attend with the signature of their parents.

Northwest Band Camp - In Person

June 21 - 27, 2020

Northwest Band Camp is a one-week summer music camp that combines individual and group music instruction along with tons of fun recreation time that give young musicians the opportunity to meet with many other similarly interested students in a fun, friendly, inspiring, and musically intensive environment. More information here

University of Oregon - In Person

July 13 - 18, 2020 

The University of Oregon Marching & Leadership Camp is open to all students who are currently completing grades 8-12. Graduating seniors are welcome! No previous marching experience required! More information for this band camp experience here


Philadelphia International Music Festival - Online

June 20 - July 3, 2020 & July 18 - 31, 2020

Daily ensemble rehearsals, private instruction, music education courses, performance opportunities, and master classes with members of the Philadelphia Orchestra. More information can be found here
