When did you decide you wanted to be a musician, and what drew you to that decision?

I started playing the clarinet at the age of 9. My father is an excellent clarinet player and when he was practicing some beautiful clarinet excerpts (he was in the Opera Orchestra at the time) I asked him to teach me. That’s how my journey started :)

Who have been some of the most influential people in your life?

My parents and my teachers

Who are your musical inspirations?

Luciano Pavarotti, David Oistrakh and Leonard Bernstein.

What are the greatest challenges you have faced as a musician and how have you overcome them?

Playing 9 hour days at the Metropolitan Opera were very challenging, but it was an amazing experience that I will never forget.

What does your daily practice routine look like?

I usually practice about 3 hours a day. I start playing some scales and etudes, then move to the pieces I need to perform or learn. I try to play as much chamber music as possible since I love it the most.

What has been the most fulfilling aspect of your life as a musician?

I am truly blessed to be doing what I love. Music provides a feeling that changes you as a person. Music will save our lives.

Do you have a reed break-in process?

Yes, I do have a break in process for reeds. I play on each reed for about 5-10 min every other day for at least a week before I can fully use it at rehearsal or a concert...

What is a tip you’d like to share with us about performing chamber music?

Performing chamber music is something I personally like the most. I would strongly recommend everyone to play as much chamber music as possible. It will definitely make you a better musician.

What is your Vandoren setup?

BD5 mouthpiece, Vandoren leather ligature and V12 number 4 for reeds.
