Jason Hainsworth
Jason Hainsworth is one of the most in demand saxophonists, educators, and composers on the scene today. Having recorded and/or toured with the likes of Ulysses Owens, Diane Schur, Micheal Dease, and Jonathan Blake, Hainsworth is known for his warm sound and “down home” energy that he brings to any band he performs in.
A native of Houston, TX, Jason Hainsworth prides himself on carrying on the “Texas Tenor” tradition of saxophonists which include Illinois Jacquet, Arnette Cobb, Billy Harper, and many others. Hainsworth travels throughout the country as both leader and sideman performing some of the world's premier venues such as, the Black Cat (San Francisco), Jazz at Lincoln Center (NYC), the Jazz Corner (South Carolina), and SFJazz (San Francisco). He also regularly serves as a guest clinician and guest artist throughout the country at the Jazz Educators Network conference, California All-State Music Festival, Cal State Fullerton, Florida A & M, Florida State University, and many others.
In addition to his performances, Jason Hainsworth has composed and/or arranged music for the Ulysses Owen Big Band, Christian McBride Big Band, Count Basie Orchestra, San Francisco Symphony Chamber Players, and numerous other ensembles in both jazz and classical genres.
Jason Hainsworth holds degrees in both classical and jazz performance from William Paterson University and Florida State University. He is based in San Francisco, CA where he serves as Associate Dean for Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion as well as Executive Director for Roots, Jazz, and American Music at the San Francisco Conservatory of Music.
