John Hallberg
John Hallberg (b. 1988) is an accomplished saxophone performer and educator based in Southern California. His career has taken him across the United States, Europe, and Asia, giving recitals and solo performances in venues such as Weill Recital Hall of Carnegie Hall, Segerstrom Concert Hall, Mozart Concert Hall of Zuhai, Zipper Concert Hall, Thayer Recital Hall at The Colburn School, and numerous university campuses worldwide.
Currently serving as faculty at California State University-Fullerton, The Colburn School, and Irvine Valley College, John has also taught applied saxophone at the University of Southern California. Many of his students have successfully auditioned for prestigious undergraduate, graduate, and teaching credential programs. They have also excelled in North American Saxophone Alliance (NASA) solo and chamber music competitions, Music Teachers National Association (MTNA) solo and chamber music competitions, the Fischoff Competition, Houston Underground solo competition, International Saxophone Academy competition, and All-State and All-Southern California honor bands.
He actively participates in saxophone festivals and music conventions, regularly attending NASA conferences, World Saxophone Conferences, and frequently receives invitations as a guest artist to teach and perform at various musical events across the country and abroad. While residing in Southern California, he maintains a schedule of clinics and lectures and performs for local schools and throughout the community. His involvement in these events allows him to share his knowledge and give back to audiences in the region.
John received a Doctor of Musical Arts in Saxophone Performance with minors in Music Theory and Analysis, Music Technology, and Jazz Studies from the University of Southern California. He also holds a Master of Arts degree from The University of Iowa, and a Bachelor of Music degree from The Bob Cole Conservatory of Music at California State University-Long Beach.
In his free time, John enjoys cooking, roasting and brewing coffee, playing chess, and spending time with his wife and two children.
John is a Yamaha Performing Artist and Vandoren Artist and performs on Yamaha Saxophones and Vandoren equipment exclusively.
