Still Reinventing Jazz
Victor Goines left New Orleans in 1987 to pursue his Master of Music Degree in Virginia. During that time, he traveled to New York City to perform with Ruth Brown, Lionel Hampton, Bobby Watson, Jack McDuff, and others. Upon his return to his hometown, Goines won both the New Orleans City-Wide Jazz Saxophone Competition and the Best of New Orleans Jazz competition, and later outperformed nearly 300 musicians from around the world in the Thelonious Monk International Jazz Saxophone Competition. He has performed on the music scores for movies like When Night Falls On Manhattan and Rosewood, as well as on music videos featuring Bobby McFerrin, Wynton Marsalis, Linda Ronstadt, Eric Clapton, and more. Adept in a bevy of instruments, Mr. Goines has also collaborated, recorded, and performed with many noted artists such as Ray Charles, Eric Clapton, Bo Diddley, Bob Dylan, Dizzy Gillespie, B.B. King, Willie Nelson, Diana Ross, The Four Tops, The Temptations, Stevie Wonder, and more.
