Here is a list of 10 of my favorite “must see” events and activities for clarinetists. Some require travel and expense, while others are free and can be accessed with a just few computer keystrokes.
1. ICA ClarinetFest
The biggest and the best clarinet event. Concerts, recitals, lectures, vendor displays - the works! Annually in summer, with itinerant locations.
2. Midwest Clinic
The granddaddy of them all. Concerts, presentations, vendors and more vendors. Annually in Chicago in December.

3. Texas Music Educators Association (TMEA) Conference
Largest of all the state music conferences with performances, educational presentations, and vendors. Annually in San Antonio in February.
4. National Association of Music Merchants (NAMM)
The largest music industry trade show. New products introduced and all of the companies display their product lines. Annually in California in January.
5. World Association for Symphonic Bands and Ensembles (WASBE)
The leading international organization for wind band music. Annual summer conference, with performances by wind ensembles from around the world. Itinerant locations.
6. Your Local Symphony Orchestra
7. Recitals
by faculty and students at your local college, university, or conservatory.
8. YouTube
Thousands of performances, recordings, and clarinet related informational videos. Only a mouse click away!
9. The Benny Goodman Story
The classic Hollywood biopic on Benny Goodman, starring Steve Allen (who took clarinet lessons to look more authentic).
10. Mpingo - The Tree that Makes Music
A marvelous documentary about the Mpingo tree, where the precious wood that clarinets are made of comes from.
Happy clarinet adventures!
