Stanley Drucker shares the stories behind his first solo experience with the New York Philharmonic at Carnegie Hall and a very spontaneous performance of the Mozart Concerto. He also discusses his experiences with the famed clarinet concertos of Nielsen, Corigliano, and Copland.
Mitchell Estrin, a former student of Drucker and former member of the New York Philharmonic, sat down to chat with Stanley for this installment of the Vandoren series, Conversations in New York. In chapter one, they discuss Stanley’s musical upbringing, his early clarinet teachers and influences, and his time at the Curtis Institute where he crossed paths with Robert Marcellus, Bernard Portnoy, Marcel Tabuteau.
