After the success of “Leaps & Sounds: 12 Contemporary Etudes for Jazz Saxophone-Volume I”, I felt inspired to continue writing pieces of similar scope and structure- this book is the result. The goal of this book is the same as Volume I; to provide etudes that integrate the usage of large intervals, along with strong Be-Bop, modern vocabulary and good voice leading, that challenge the serious student looking for a contemporary counterpoint to other resources currently available.

Volume II is available in Concert, Bb and Eb transpositions and each of the etudes are written over the chord changes to familiar jazz standards, many of them written in atypical key centers. Physical copies are available in Bb and Eb and PDF versions are available for all transpositions, directly from my online store at www.adamlarsonjazz.com/store on Janaury 16th. Each etude in Volume II also includes an “Etude Insight”, that highlights specific techniques used during that etude. Additionally, a list of altissimo fingerings has been provided in the back of this Volume II!

What people are saying about the book:

“I highly recommend this book for saxophonists. These etudes are a great way to work on multiple skills all at the same time: learning standards, instrument range, getting an even tone, time feel, facility and technique, altissimo, ear training and harmony! The large intervals Adam utilizes are great in exposing any uneven areas of the instrument and opening up the ear.”- Roxy Coss, Musician/Composer/Bandleader/Educator/Activist/Founder of WIJO

"What I love most about these etudes is that we get a glimpse into Adam's individual creative process. In applying his highly developed vocabulary to familiar standards in unconventional keys, you can see the challenges he sets for himself, testing the limits of his technical and musical abilities. Do the work, you won't regret it.” - Alex LoRe, NYC saxophonist/composer

“Leaps and Sounds…”, is a highly imaginative book for the saxophonist exploring both a wider intervallic language and the altissimo.I normally have to send my students to classical etudes to get this kind of technical workout. Not since Eddie Harris’ Intervallistic Concept has a book brought a more thoughtful approach to intervallic and range expansion.” - Dr. Andrew Bishop, Associate Professor of Jazz and Contemporary Improvisation, University of Michigan
